Cripple Creek casinos to begin reopening June 15

Colorado regulators approve Teller County’s request for variance to the safer-at-home guidelines.

Casinos in Cripple Creek can begin reopening in a limited capacity on June 15 after regulators approved a variance to the state’s safer-at-home guidelines submitted by Teller County.

Casinos will be limited to a 50% capacity, and guests must wear masks upon entry and practice social distancing. Slot machines will be available for play, but table games will not, according to the variance.

“I’m very happy we’re getting to open, said Matt Andrighetti, general manager for Wildwood Casino. “I just want to do it in such a way that we’re responsible and don’t have to close again.”

Colorado closed its casinos in mid-March to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus, causing a substantial economic toll on its gaming towns. On Sunday, the state also gave Gilpin County the green light to begin reopening casinos in Black Hawk and Central City on June 17.
